Chapter Twenty-three

He didn’t like it, didn’t like it one bit.

She had been about to kiss a woman. When she was in her Jeep the other night, he was sure of it.

And now, he was in his car at the gas station waiting for her. He stared down the road at the entrance to the cane farm. A quick glance at his wristwatch pissed him off even more. It was getting late and she had yet to go for her run today. He’d waited for her earlier that morning and she hadn’t showed. So, he’d come back tonight to wait again and nothing. It had been a few days now since she’d run.

Where was she? What was going on?

Not only was she absent, but she was most likely a homosexual. Something he hadn’t ever experienced before, as far as his lovelies went. What would it mean, if anything?

“It means she’ll be even harder to convince to love and appreciate me.”

He opened his bottle of milk he’d bought from the gas station and drank heartily. Then he tossed the empty container on his seat.

“I’ll just have to change her mind.” But he thought of his current lovely and how difficult she’d been thus far. Could he really change Lyra Aarden and get her to love and appreciate him?

He wasn’t sure. But he knew he’d give anything to try.

After a few more minutes and a few curious looks from people pulling into the station, he decided he’d better leave. He drove onto the main road and headed home. He didn’t feel like working tonight, so he’d just have to tighten his purse strings a little. He had more important things to do. Like get his lovely ready for her big reveal. It was going to be monumental and he could afford no mistakes.

He also had Lyra Aarden front and foremost on his mind, and he knew he couldn’t shake her anytime soon. He was obsessed now, and realizing that she was gay was only adding fuel to the fire. He’d been so angry at her the night before in seeing her lean in to kiss that woman, that he’d almost jumped out of his car and approached her. And then, as they’d left, something else happened. He’d become aroused. Highly aroused.

It had confused him and he’d fantasized the whole way home about how he’d force her to change her mind. How she’d change and she’d love him. It was such an exciting thought, he hadn’t even slept. Not a wink. And he’d been almost disgusted with his current lovely lying next to him.

He’d hated the way she’d sounded as she breathed. He was so ready to get rid of her. She was nothing to him now. Not even worthy of his final fantasy. No, she would be different and he had just the plan for her.

He slowed and pulled into his gravel drive. Then he hurried into the house to the bedroom. His lovely was on the bed, tied to the headboard, waiting for him.
